Everything people ask before they book

If you are renting a dumpster for the first time, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the City will want a permit, and what you cannot throw in. The answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (864) 310-7644 — a real person in Spartanburg will answer it.

Part 1

Pricing

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Spartanburg, SC?

Typical rentals run $295 to $695, with no hidden pickup, fuel or delivery fees. The price depends on the size, the type of debris, the delivery location and any permit, and how long you keep it. You get a flat rate on the phone covering delivery, pickup, the standard rental of up to 7 days and the included weight — 2 to 3 tons on a 10 or 15 yard, 3 to 4 on a 20, 4 to 5 on a 30, 5 to 6 on a 40. Going over costs extra. The cost guide breaks it down.

Is delivery and pickup included in the price?

Yes. Delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal up to the included weight are all in the one flat price. No fuel surcharges, no hidden fees.

What causes extra charges?

Three things: going over the included weight, keeping the container past the rental window — at a low daily rate — and restricted materials that have to come out of the load. We explain it all on the first call so there is nothing to find later.

Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or dirt?

Not a different rate — but concrete, brick, dirt, shingles and tile use up the included weight fast. So we size heavy loads differently (a 10 yard loaded level, or split loads) and tell you where the weight line is before you load.

What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit cards, business checks and electronic payments. Payment, or a deposit, may be taken before delivery. Contractors and repeat clients get invoices, and long-term and multi-bin customers get discounted pricing and monthly invoicing. Cancel up to 24 hours before delivery for a full refund.

Part 2

Sizing

What size dumpster do I need?

A 10 for a bathroom, a garage or a small load of heavy material, a 15 for a kitchen, flooring or a deck, a 20 for a whole-home cleanout, a roof or a multi-room remodel, a 30 for a full-house renovation or a new build, a 40 for construction and demolition. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.

What happens if I order too small?

You need another haul — and too large means paying for unused space. When in doubt, describe the job and let us size it. If your project grows, we can swap the dumpster.

What is the biggest dumpster you offer?

A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 8 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, 5–6 tons included. It is a job-site container, not a driveway one.

How full can I fill it?

Level with the top edge, no higher. An overfilled dumpster cannot be safely hauled, so even loading matters.

How much does a roof tear-off produce?

It depends on the size of the roof and how many layers are coming off. Repairs and single-layer tear-offs fit a 10, a typical roof a 15 or 20, and large roofs a 30. Shingles are heavy, so tell us the roof size and the layers and we will plan it around the weight.

Part 3

Permits, placement and town rules

Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?

On your own driveway or private property, we found no City of Spartanburg or Spartanburg County rule requiring one. In a City street, sidewalk, alley or parking space, yes: City Code Sec. 30-156 makes it unlawful to obstruct a City street without the city manager's consent — and the street runs from the curb to your property line — so you need the City's Temporary Street Closure/Encroachment application: a minimum $75 fee, a $1 million liability certificate and a $10,000 surety bond naming the City, a hold harmless agreement and a traffic control plan approved by the Traffic Services Manager. You set the start and end dates on the application, you are responsible for the traffic control devices, and anything left in the street at night needs a light at each end and one every 25 feet between (Sec. 30-158(b)). The permit guide and your town page cover the details.

Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?

Inside the City, with the permit — call Traffic Services (864-596-3741) about the traffic control plan. On a state road, S.C. Code Sec. 57-7-210 makes it unlawful to place an obstruction anywhere in the right-of-way, shoulders included, and SCDOT handles encroachment permits; the City wants a copy of the SCDOT permit too. In the unincorporated county we found no county permit for a container on a county road. Elsewhere: Greer's code bans obstructions on its streets (Sec. 62-181), Pacolet keeps bulk containers off its streets unless the Town designates a spot (Sec. 18-9(1)), and Duncan makes it a misdemeanor to leave an obstruction that makes a street impassable (Sec. 34-27(e)). Tell us when you book and we line the delivery up with it.

Am I inside Spartanburg city limits?

Many Spartanburg mailing addresses — our own yard included — are in unincorporated Spartanburg County, where the City's street permit does not apply. The City's own test: if your property's millage group code on the County Assessor record includes the letter Z, the property is inside city limits. We will check it with you when you book.

Why do some of your town pages mention hauler licenses?

Because several apply. Spartanburg County requires every private collector collecting or transporting refuse in the county to hold a county collector's license and to use the county landfill (County Code Sec. 66-3). The City of Spartanburg requires a business license from anyone doing business inside city limits (City Code Sec. 10-1), Lyman requires one to serve commercial locations (Sec. 16-20), and Duncan's Council approves applications to serve commercial customers. We are licensed in the places that require it. We quote the section on each page.

Does my HOA matter?

It can. Covenants can cover containers on your driveway, and we do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

Ask for boards under the dumpster and the driver puts them down. Tell us before delivery if a surface needs more than that — and keep it off soft ground.

How much space does the truck need?

A flat, hard surface, room for the container — about 12 feet long for a 10 yard, about 22 feet for a 20 and up, and 8 feet wide — a straight run for the truck to back in, and clear space overhead. Power lines, tree branches, parked cars and bins are the usual problem.

Part 4

Booking and delivery

How do I book a dumpster?

Call (864) 310-7644. Tell us the address, what is going in and roughly how much, and we quote it flat and schedule it on the same call.

How fast can you deliver?

Often same-day or next-day, depending on availability. Call before noon for the best chance of same-day; the edges of our area are more often next day.

What are your hours?

24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Storm requests go to the same number.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

The standard rental is up to 7 days. Call or text and we extend it at a low daily rate — contractors on long job sites and homeowners on multi-week renovations do it all the time. A City street permit runs for the dates on the application, and inside city limits construction contractors must contain their debris by the end of each working day (City Code Sec. 28-81). Your HOA may have its own limit.

Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?

No. Agree the spot with us, keep it clear of vehicles and obstacles, and the driver sets it down. Same for pickup — and please do not move the container once it is placed; call us if it needs moving.

Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?

Yes. Several dumpsters at once, staggered deliveries and scheduled rotations are routine for contractors and property managers.

Part 5

Service area

What towns do you serve?

Spartanburg, Boiling Springs, Duncan, Lyman, Wellford, Inman, Roebuck, Moore, Woodruff, Chesnee, Cowpens, Landrum, Pacolet and Reidville across Spartanburg County, and Greer on the county line — each with its own page. The complete Spartanburg guide pulls it together.

Where are you based?

At 9091 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29316 — in unincorporated Spartanburg County, just outside city limits.

Is service different in the far towns?

Mostly the timing. Greer and Woodruff are 20 to 23 road miles from the yard and more often next day than same-day. Price depends partly on the delivery location, and we say any difference up front.

Do some towns restrict who can deliver a roll-off?

Yes — Spartanburg County licenses private collectors, the City of Spartanburg, Lyman, Greer, Landrum and Pacolet require business licenses, and Duncan's Council approves commercial service. Greer's Greenville County side falls under Greenville County's disposal rules. The City of Spartanburg, Greer, Pacolet and Duncan have rules on what can sit in a street. Each town page says what that town's code says, and we tell you where your job stands when you call.

Part 6

What we take

What can I put in a dumpster?

Household junk and furniture, mattresses, wood, drywall, flooring, cabinets, siding, roofing shingles, metal, cardboard and packaging, yard waste kept out of household trash, and concrete, brick, asphalt or dirt loaded level within the weight limit.

What can't go in a dumpster?

South Carolina keeps lead-acid batteries, used oil and unprocessed oil filters, whole tires, and home computers, monitors, printers and TVs out of its landfills, white goods out of household-trash landfills, and yard trash out of household-trash loads (S.C. Code Secs. 44-96-160 to 44-96-200 and 48-60-90). Construction and demolition landfills also refuse liquids such as wet paint and thinner, anything contaminated with petroleum, solvents or pesticides, and fluorescent lamps. We also keep out propane tanks and gas cylinders, medical waste and asbestos. The what can and cannot go in guide says where each of those goes instead.

Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?

No. South Carolina's asbestos rule (R.61-86.1) wants a written demolition application to SCDES at least ten working days before a commercial, public or multi-unit building comes down, even if no asbestos is found. Homeowners working on their own house of four units or fewer are generally exempt, but a licensed abatement contractor must follow the full rule. Regulated asbestos waste goes only to a landfill permitted to accept it, with a 'permission for disposal' letter from SCDES's Bureau of Air Quality — call SCDES's Asbestos Section at (803) 898-4289. It never goes in a roll-off.

Can I put concrete, brick or dirt in a regular dumpster?

In a 10 or 15 yard, yes — heavy materials have strict weight limits for safe transport. Heaped in a 20 or 30 it is more than the truck can safely haul. That is why so many patio and driveway jobs end up with a 10, loaded level, kept separate from household junk. Hardened concrete (rebar included), brick, block, rock and soil are all on South Carolina's accepted list for construction and demolition landfills.

Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?

Mattresses, yes — they are on the state's accepted list for construction and demolition landfills. Appliances, no — fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters and A/C units are white goods, banned from South Carolina household-trash landfills. Spartanburg County residents can take them to the Cowpens, Hobbysville, Enoree, Stone Station or Wellford recycling centers, fridges emptied of food. TVs and computers are banned from landfills too. Our junk removal crew can take them to the right place.

What happens to the debris after pickup?

It goes to a permitted facility, not a random dump — Spartanburg County's Wellford Landfill, with construction and demolition debris on its Class Two side and household trash on its Class Three side. Metal, concrete, cardboard and clean wood and yard debris are separated and recycled whenever possible.
