Residential Dumpster Rental across Spartanburg County and the Upstate
Homes around here vary enough that one container does not fit all of them. A narrow drive near downtown or in Converse Heights wants a 10 or a 15 and a driver who takes it slowly. A newer subdivision in Boiling Springs or Duncan may have room for a 20, and an HOA with its own covenants. A country lot out toward Chesnee, Pacolet or Woodruff has room for anything. The first thing we ask on the phone is what your driveway looks like.
Most residential jobs are one of three things: a cleanout (a garage, an attic, or a whole house before a move or a sale), a remodel (kitchen, bath, flooring, roof), or the yard — landscaping, a tree coming down, storm cleanup. Each wants a different size and a different talk about weight. The size comparison covers the numbers, the home cleanout guide covers the planning, and the phone call covers your job.

What actually fills a residential container
Garage, attic and estate cleanouts lead the way: furniture, boxes, mattresses, clothing, the contents of a shed. Kitchen and bath remodels are next — cabinets, tile, drywall, flooring, fixtures. Then the outdoor jobs: shingles off a roof after a storm, an old deck or fence, a landscaping redo, storm limbs.
Regular pickup is not built for any of that. Inside the City of Spartanburg, furniture and appliances set three feet from your cart are picked up within one to two business days, but the City does not pick up tires, electronic waste, or construction, demolition or green waste a contractor made, and its green-waste pickup takes no stumps, dirt or limbs longer than six feet or thicker than six inches. Out in the county there is no curbside pickup in the county code; the roadside and recycling centers are for county residents' household garbage, and furniture and construction materials have to go to the Wellford Landfill. Anything bigger, heavier or sooner than that is what a residential roll-off is for.
Driveway placement, street rules and HOAs
On your own driveway we found no City of Spartanburg or Spartanburg County rule requiring a permit for a roll-off. Boards can go under the dumpster to protect the surface, and the driver sets the container where you want to load it — on a hard, flat surface, off soft ground. The street is another matter. City Code Sec. 30-156 makes it unlawful to obstruct any City street without the city manager's consent, and the street includes the strip between the curb and your property line. A container in a City street, sidewalk, alley or parking space needs the City's Temporary Street Closure/Encroachment application: a minimum $75 fee, a $1 million liability certificate and a $10,000 surety bond naming the City, a hold harmless agreement and a traffic control plan approved by the Traffic Services Manager. Anything left in the street at night needs a light at each end and one every 25 feet between (Sec. 30-158(b)).
Two more things. HOAs: covenants can cover containers on your lot, so check yours before you book a longer rental. And the other towns differ: Greer's development code lets a temporary dumpster sit on the property it serves but keeps it out of the front setback unless there is an active building permit (UDO Sec. 4.6); Pacolet keeps bulk containers off its streets and sidewalks unless the Town designates a spot (Sec. 18-9(1)); and on a state road, S.C. Code Sec. 57-7-210 makes an obstruction unlawful and SCDOT handles encroachment permits. Each town page says what that town's code asks for.

Residential dumpster rental — the South Carolina specifics
South Carolina keeps a short list of things out of the trash and out of its landfills, and a mixed roll-off load ends up at one. No used lead-acid battery may go in with household trash or be disposed of except through a battery retailer or wholesaler, a registered recycling facility or a secondary lead smelter, and each one improperly disposed of is a separate violation (S.C. Code Sec. 44-96-180). Used oil must go to a used-oil collection facility, and oil filters may not go in a landfill unless crushed or hot-drained (Sec. 44-96-160). Whole tires may not go in any landfill (Sec. 44-96-170(G)). Yard trash may not be mixed into loads headed for a household-trash landfill (Sec. 44-96-190), and white goods — fridges, freezers, ranges, water heaters, dishwashers, washers, dryers and air conditioners — may not go to one at all (Sec. 44-96-200). Computers, monitors, printers and TVs from your home may not go into any waste stream bound for a landfill (Sec. 48-60-90). Where they go instead in Spartanburg County, for county residents: batteries, used motor oil, filters and antifreeze to any county recycling center; appliances and scrap metal to the Cowpens, Hobbysville, Enoree, Stone Station or Wellford centers, fridges emptied of food; TVs and computers to White Stone, Cooley Springs, Hobbysville or the Wellford Landfill; and tires to the Wellford Landfill only, five per household free. The what can and cannot go in guide covers the rest.

Answers
Residential Dumpster Rental — your questions answered
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
Not if it is set properly. Ask for boards under the dumpster and the driver puts them down. Tell us before delivery if a surface worries you — fresh concrete, pavers, a cracked slab, grass or soft ground — and we will plan around it.
Can I put the dumpster on the street instead?
Inside the City of Spartanburg, only with the City's Temporary Street Closure/Encroachment permit — a minimum $75 fee, a $1 million liability certificate, a $10,000 bond and a traffic control plan approved by the City — and on a state road the City also wants your SCDOT permit. In the unincorporated county we found no county permit for a container on a county road, so keep it on the property. The driveway is always simpler.
Does my HOA have a say?
On the driveway, often yes. Covenants can cover containers on your lot, and we do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book, especially for a longer rental.
Can I put old appliances in the dumpster?
No. Fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters and A/C units are white goods, and South Carolina bans them from household-trash landfills (S.C. Code Sec. 44-96-200). Spartanburg County residents can take them to the Cowpens, Hobbysville, Enoree, Stone Station or Wellford recycling centers. Inside city limits, whoever installs a new appliance has to take the old one away (City Code Sec. 28-43(6)). Tell us what you have, or let our junk removal crew take them.
How long can I keep the container?
The standard rental is up to 7 days. If the job runs on, call or text and we extend it at a low daily rate. If you finish early, we pick it up early.
Do you serve outside Spartanburg?
Yes — fourteen more towns and communities across Spartanburg County, from Landrum and Chesnee in the north to Woodruff and Moore in the south, and Greer on the county line. Each has its own page. Spartanburg County licenses private collectors and several towns require a business license — we are licensed in the places that require it — and we say so plainly on each page.
