Construction Dumpster Rental across Spartanburg County and the Upstate

A job site does not make one kind of waste. Demolition comes out heavy — concrete, block, brick, tile — then framing and drywall come out light and bulky, then the finish phase is packaging and offcuts. We size each phase on its own: a 10 loaded level for the heavy stuff, a 30 or 40 for the bulk, and a swap schedule so the crew never waits on a full box. Small remodels and roofing tear-offs take a 10 or 15, framing and drywall a 20, new home builds a 30, and major construction or demolition a 40.

In South Carolina the sorting matters. Construction and demolition landfills — the Class Two landfill the county runs at Wellford — take a set list: lumber including treated lumber, drywall, shingles, insulation, tile, glass, hardened concrete (rebar and all), brick, block, asphalt, rock, soil, pallets, packaging, and brush and stumps. They do not take liquids, anything soaked in petroleum, solvents or pesticides, fluorescent lamps, or TVs and computers, and household garbage belongs on the household-trash side. A clean, separated load and a box sized for the weight both keep the job on budget. The Spartanburg permit guide covers the street paperwork.

At a glance

What you get with construction dumpster rental

  • Containers sized by job phase — heavy demo, framing, finish
  • Scheduled swap-outs and bin rotations so the site never waits on a full box
  • 10 yard containers for concrete, brick and dirt loaded level
  • 30 and 40 yard containers for bulky framing and demolition debris
  • Concrete, asphalt, metal and clean wood recycled whenever possible
  • Priority service, discounted long-term pricing and monthly invoicing for contractors with ongoing accounts

Demolition, framing, roofing and finish

Demolition debris is where the weight is. Concrete, block, brick, asphalt and tile go in 10 yards loaded level, because a 30 heaped with rubble is more than the truck can safely haul and more than any allowance covers. Framing and drywall go in 20s and 30s. Shingle roofs go in a 10, 15 or 20 depending on the size of the roof and the layers coming off.

Asbestos is a state matter. South Carolina's rule (R.61-86.1) wants a written demolition application to SCDES at least ten working days before the start, even when no asbestos is found, for commercial and public buildings, apartment buildings of more than four units, and houses taken down as part of a larger commercial or public project. Homeowners working on their own house of four units or fewer are generally exempt — but not if they hire a licensed asbestos abatement contractor, who must follow the full rule. Regulated asbestos waste goes only to a landfill permitted to take it, with a 'permission for disposal' letter from SCDES. It never goes in a roll-off. We will ask what the building is before we quote a demo job.

Job-site placement and the City of Spartanburg

On a private lot we place where the driver can reach it and the crew can load it. If the container has to sit in a City street, sidewalk, alley or parking space, you need the City's Temporary Street Closure/Encroachment application — a minimum $75 fee, a $1 million liability certificate and a $10,000 bond naming the City, a hold harmless agreement, and a traffic control plan approved by the Traffic Services Manager (864-596-3741) — and the applicant is responsible for all traffic control devices and set-up. Anything left in the street at night needs a light at each end and one every 25 feet between (Sec. 30-158(b)). City Code Sec. 28-81 makes construction and demolition contractors contain their debris by the end of each working day, with containers sized to the job, and Sec. 28-43 makes it unlawful to put construction material, dirt or rocks from contract work at the curb for City collection.

Construction dumpster rental — the local specifics

Several towns put construction debris in writing. Inman says all building materials and refuse must be removed by the contractor responsible for the work, and city forces will not remove limbs or debris from a contractor's work (Sec. 22-44). Lyman puts it on the contractor or the property owner (Sec. 16-25), and so does Duncan, which gives five working days to clear prohibited items left on the town right-of-way (Sec. 42-111). Chesnee says the same about building materials (Sec. 24-25). Pacolet wants construction debris contained by the end of each working day and anything dropped on a street removed immediately (Sec. 18-43). Greer hauls building waste only by arrangement and payment through its public services office (Sec. 74-32(g)). Every town page quotes the section.

Answers

Construction Dumpster Rental — your questions answered

Do you do swap-outs?

Yes. We pull the full container and drop an empty. Most multi-week jobs set up ongoing swaps at the start, and contractors with several sites can pre-book pickups and swaps.

Can I mix concrete with other debris?

You can, but it costs you. Concrete fills the weight allowance long before the box looks full, so we usually run a 10 for rubble alongside a bigger box for the rest. Hardened concrete with rebar in it is on the state's accepted list for construction and demolition landfills, so it does not need to be stripped.

Can you deliver to a site with no address yet?

Yes — give us the nearest cross streets and a site contact, and we will coordinate placement with your site supervisor before the truck goes out.

Do I need a permit for a container on a Spartanburg job site?

Not for the container on your own lot, as far as the City's and County's published codes say. You need the City's Temporary Street Closure/Encroachment application if the box will sit in a City street, sidewalk, alley or parking space, SCDOT's say on a state road, and SCDES's ten-working-day demolition application for commercial and multi-unit buildings. We flag it when you book.

Which towns restrict construction haulers?

Spartanburg County requires a collector's license for anyone hauling refuse in the county, the City of Spartanburg requires a business license for work inside city limits, Lyman ties commercial waste service to a town business license, and Duncan's Council approves commercial service — we are licensed in the places that require it. Each town page says what that town's code says, and we tell you straight when you call.
