Permits, placement and who may haul in Lyman
Who may haul — the rule that matters: Lyman Code §16-20 says no one may run solid waste collection or disposal for commercial or institutional locations in town "without a business license from the town." We hold ours, along with the Spartanburg County collector's license County Code §66-3 requires. We found no exclusive franchise.
Placement: §16-22 bars depositing debris or solid waste on any public street or right-of-way, and the zoning code keeps portable storage units and construction trailers off public streets. We found no Town permit for a dumpster in the street, so it goes on your driveway or lot — that normally needs no permit, and our crew confirms the spot with you.
Knocking something down: for a commercial building, or an apartment building of more than four units, SCDES (formerly DHEC) needs a written demolition application at least 10 working days before work starts, even if no asbestos is found. Homes of four units or fewer are generally exempt from the state's asbestos project rules when the owner does the work. Asbestos needs its own handling — tell us before any goes in.
Summarized from the city's published code and web pages as read in October 2026. Codes change — confirm with the department listed before you rely on it.
How it works
Booking a dumpster in Lyman
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
- 1
Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask your location, what you are clearing, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us. No long forms, no guesswork.
- 2
We size it and quote it flat
You get one number covering delivery, the standard rental of up to 7 days, pickup, disposal and a stated weight allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.
- 3
Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site exactly where you asked, with boards under it if you want them. Often same-day or next-day, depending on availability.
- 4
Load at your own pace
Keep it level with the top edge and keep the banned items out — tires, car batteries, used oil and filters, liquid paint, chemicals, propane tanks, TVs and computers, and appliances such as fridges, washers and water heaters. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call or text and we are on it.
- 5
We haul it and dispose of it right
The load goes to Spartanburg County's Wellford Landfill — the county's own landfill, where county code sends licensed haulers — with metal, concrete, cardboard and clean green waste recycled whenever possible. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

Local answers
Dumpster rental in Lyman — common questions
Is Lyman same-day?
Often, yes — about 24 minutes from the yard. Call (864) 310-7644 early and ask.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Lyman?
Not that we found for a driveway, and that is where we put it. Town code bars debris on public streets and rights-of-way.
Does Lyman license waste haulers?
For commercial and institutional work, yes — a Town business license under §16-20. We hold ours.
Will the Town take my remodel debris?
No. Lyman says building debris will not be collected by the Town — the contractor or property owner removes it.
Service area
Every town we cover
We run roll-off containers out of the Asheville Highway yard to every town below. Spartanburg and the closest towns are often same-day; the edges of the county are more often next-day. The county licenses private haulers, several towns require a business license, and some keep containers out of the street — each page says so plainly. If your town is not listed, call anyway.
